Barbara Ann Styer 1935-2024
In the rural community of Muhlenberg Township, where the sun casts golden hues over the familiar landscape, a notable presence has left an indelible mark on the community. Barbara Ann Styer, a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on December 17, 2024. Her departure resonated deeply with all who knew her, for Barbara was more than just a resident; she was a cornerstone of the community. Growing up in Muhlenberg Township, Barbara dedicated her life to serving others, exemplified by her 16 years as a bus driver for the Westfall Local School District. With a warm smile and a kind heart, she welcomed children onto her bus each morning, ensuring they started their day with reassurance and comfort. The laughter and stories shared during those rides became cherished memories for many.
Barbara's faith was equally important to her. She attended Lighthouse Community Christian Church, drawing strength and community from her church family until her health prevented her from participating. Her spiritual journey was marked by a profound sense of giving, leading her to become an active member of the Five Points/Derby United Methodist Church's Sole Sisters, where she found friendship and purpose alongside other devoted women.
Beyond her immediate family, Barbara's passion for the community extended to the Monrovian Garden Club, where she nurtured not only plants but also relationships. Her green thumb transformed local gardens into vibrant havens. Moreover, as a longstanding 4-H advisor, she shared her love for agriculture and the outdoors with countless young people, instilling in them the values of hard work. Barbara's family was her greatest pride. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Styer, and her parents, Loring and Mabel (Snyder) Stoer.
Yet her legacy continued to blossom through her three daughters—Rebecca Styer, Kathryn (Randy) Kimes, and Sharon (Jeff) Wippel—who carry forward the values she instilled in them. Barbara was also the proud grandmother of seven wonderful grandchildren, who knew her as a source of unconditional love and wisdom: Makenzie (Ryan) Mast, Macie (Jacob) Oertle, Samantha (Lauren Taylor) Finley, Alek ( Amy Hore) Stonerock, Mallorie (Levi) Boggs, Regan (Connor) Young, and Markie (Neal) Davis. Her role as a great-grandmother brought her immense joy, as she welcomed seven great-grandchildren—Nolan, Maylan, and Evan Mast; Grace and Lorin Boggs; Luke and Rhys Davis—with three more on the way. Each child was a testament to the love she fostered within her family. As Barbara’s health declined, she retained her fierce spirit and sense of humor, often found sharing stories of her life with her special dog companion, Milo, curled up on her lap.
Those who knew Barbara will remember her not only for her roles as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, but also for the strength she embodied and the kindness she spread. Her family penned a heartfelt tribute to her—a poem celebrating the legacy of love and resilience she left behind. This tribute echoed the impact she had on each of their lives, capturing the essence of who Barbara was: a warrior of love, a giver of strength, and a spirit who will be missed dearly. As the community mourns the loss of Barbara Ann Styer, it also celebrates her life—one woven with compassion, service, and an unwavering commitment to family and friends. Her legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her, serving as a lasting reminder of the profound impact one life can have on many.

**Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma**
A mother, grandma, and great grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you.
You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.
A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.
You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a mother, not just as a grandmother.
For all of us, you gave your best,
And now the time has come for you to rest.
So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts we’ll eternally keep.
