Charles Vernon Furniss (90), of Jeffersonville, OH passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023. Chuck was born in Derby, OH on November 15, 1932 to John H. and Marvene (Fast) Furniss.
He is survived by his children, Patricia (Harold Jackson) Furniss Rinehart, Charles W. “Bud” (Melissa Edwards) Furniss, Sara Furniss, Mark (Brenda) Furniss, Jimmy (Christina) Furniss and Randy Furniss. Chuck was also blessed with 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers James Furniss and Mark Furniss, his sister Joann Furniss and two infant twin sisters.
Charles served in the United States Army from 1952-1954, being honorably discharged Private First Class. He worked for many years as a forklift mechanic at Clark Equipment in Columbus, OH. His mechanical skills contributed to his love for working on cars and racing them. Chuck loved telling stories. He had a mischievous edge to him that prompted many a storyline from the army days and other fun moments. He was always clear minded, well-groomed and appreciative of life. The family said, “The older he got, the better.” He has left many wonderful memories and will be sorely missed.
A funeral service will be had for Chuck at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 331 West Main St. in Mt. Sterling, OH. Friends are invited to a visitation at the funeral home on THURSDAY, September 28 from 5:00-7:00 pm. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on FRIDAY, September 29 at 11:00 am. Immediately following, Chuck will be laid to rest, with military honors, at the Pleasant Cemetery in Mt. Sterling.
