Darrell F. Cooper

Darrell F. Cooper, age 93, of Columbus, Ohio, a former, long-time resident of Mt. Sterling, Ohio, went straight to Heaven on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus.  Born in Richmond, IN to the late John and Dolly Cooper, Darrell graduated from Cincinnati Western Hills High School and worked for the B&O Railroad during that time.  He joined the United States Army and served in West Germany during the Korean War where he taught Morse Code.  It was while he was in Germany that Darrell learned to drink beer and smoke!  After his Army service, Darrell moved to Mt. Sterling and worked at the depot.  His career with the railroad would span over 30 years.  He built the Dairy Freeze in Mt. Sterling and operated it for many years.  Darrell was a long-time member of the American Legion Post 417, Mt. Sterling.  A gifted musician and artist, Darrell played the piano and guitar and other instruments. He played the keyboard in all of the Mt. Sterling parades.  He painted many buildings in Mt. Sterling including the Old Town Hall picture and was the proud owner of the Cabinet Warehouse in Columbus.  Darrell is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Teresa “Terri” Cooper, son Steve Cooper and many other family members and friends.

Family will receive friends 12:00p.m.-1:00p.m. MONDAY, JANUARY 31, 2022 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 331 West Main Street, Mt. Sterling, Ohio 43143 (740)-869-2777 where his Funeral Service will follow the visitation and begin at 1:00p.m. MONDAY.  Burial will be held at Pleasant Cemetery, Mt.
