Diane Gail Spradlin, age 65, of Mt. Sterling, Ohio, became an angel in Heaven on Monday, September 30, 2019. Born in Portland, Maine on February 8, 1954, she was preceded in death by her father Leslie Osteen, Sr., her stepfather Edwin Thorn and her sister Norma Comeau. Diane is survived by her beloved husband of 32 years, Gerald F. Spradlin, Sr., her son and daughter-in-law Gerald F. & Hannah Spradlin, Jr., mother Norma Thorn, sisters: Monica (Jason) Chretien, and Margaret (John) Bennett, brothers: Richard (Lee) Osteen and Leslie (Amber Coombs) Osteen, Jr. She attained her Bachelor of Arts, English degree from the University of Maine. Diane was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a Photojournalist from 1980-84. She served abroad in West Germany and was awarded the Army Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, the Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Good Conduct Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, the Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster and Expert Ribbon for Rifle M16. Diane was the former Mayor of Mt. Sterling, Ohio and served on the Village Council for many years. She was a past Secretary of the Mt. Sterling Chamber of Commerce and served as Chairman of the Mt. Sterling Citizens’ Action Committee. She was employed with the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, the Columbus Metropolitan Library and also worked for A Friends House Domestic Violence Shelter and the American Red Cross. Diane was a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly to represent good government in Mt. Sterling, Ohio and subscribed to the belief of “service before self.” Family will receive freinds from 1:00-2:00p.m. SATURDAY, OCTOBER12, 2019 at MT. STERLING CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE, 226 NORTH MARKET STREET, MT. STERLING, OH 43143 where her Memorial Service will follow the visitation and begin at 2:00p.m. SATURDAY with Rev. Dortha Ross, officiating. Private family burial services will be held at Southern Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Springvale, ME. “ I shall pass through this world but once.
