Ernest C. Messenger, Sr., age 93 of Mt. Sterling, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Mount Sterling Place Center. He was born April 13, 1917 in Marion, Ohio. Son of the late Adolphus and Elsa (Hartman) Messenger.
He was a member of The United Church in Mt. Sterling and retired as a Major in the US Air Force.
Preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn (1-24-08); 2 sisters; and 3 brothers.
Survived by children Ernest Messenger, Jr. of London; Vickie Sheets and husband Terry of Mt. Sterling, Janet Doyle and husband Bill of Naperville, Illinois, Kathy Endres and husband Phil of Mt. Sterling, Steven Messenger and wife Cathie of Ft. Myers, FL.; sister-in-law Geri Hanska of Yukon, OK; 7 grandchildren Laura (Dan) Zuber, Todd (Shannon) Messenger, Chad (Natalie) Messenger, Tarra (Paul) Mangeot, Eric (Tracy) Endres, Christopher (Theresa) Endres, and Matthew Messenger; 11 great grandchildren that he adored which includes Madelyn and Noah Zuber, Hannah and Emily Messenger, Klaus and Garin Mangeot, Andrew and Allie Endres, Kevin and Connor Endres and Evan Messenger.
A Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2011 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Rev. Stephen Brown officiating with the interment following in Pleasant Cemetery. The Circleville Amvets Post #2256 will perform a military service for the World War II veteran at the gravesite. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 – 5 p.m.
