James E. Stiverson, formerly of Washington Court House, passed away April 10, 2016, at Hospice of North Central Ohio, Ashland, Ohio. James was born September 1, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio to John and Frieda (nee Poling) Stiverson. He lived his youth in Sugar Grove, Ohio and graduated from Berne Union High School. In 1966, after machine training, he worked at Lockbourne Air Base, Anchor Hocking Glass Data Center, and Ohio University, at their Data Center. In 1966, he enlisted in the Army and was trained to work with Sergeant Missiles. He was stationed first in Germany and then spent the remainder of his military time in Italy. While there, he learned to snow and water ski and visited numerous European landmarks. He was married in 1969 and begun a career with IBM where he worked until his retirement in 1997. He spent his retirement years as a cars' salesman, Bingo caller for the American Legion, worked at golf courses, and spent time golfing with friends. He served in the local Library Board, was a member and officer with the Masonic Lodge #0269 of Mt. Sterling, and many other civic organizations. He headed the school dictionary program and distributed them to students as an educational service. He spent the larger part of his life in the Mt. Sterling and Washington Court House area. Jim spent his last years in the care of the McMullen Asst. Care Center of Loudonville, the Brethren Care Center of Ashland, and Hospice of North Central Ohio also of Ashland. He was a gentle soul, kind, witty and always willing to help others. He was cared for and loved by those who shared his life during these last few years. May he rest in the presence of his Savior.
Preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, father and mother-in-law, several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is Survived by his brother Jack (Sandy) Stiverson of Sugar Gove, sister Sandy (Bill) Flowers and Loudonville, niece Jane (Jeff) Walters, niece Angela Stiverson, nephew Bill Flowers, great neice Jillian Hilenski, and great nephew Mitch Hilenski.
Friends may call Thursday April 14, 2016 from 4-8pm at the Porter-Tidd Funeral Home, 331 W. Main St. Mt. Sterling, Ohio 43143 where Masonic Rights will be given at 8pm. Cremation will follow the calling hours with private family burial at Fairview Cemetery, Rockbridge, Ohio at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Assoc, and/or Masonic Lodge #0269 Building Fund in Mt. Sterling.
