Janice Caroline Strayer of Sedalia went Home to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 9, 2013. She passed away with grace and dignity as she lived her life.
She was born on January 6, 1931 in Greene County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Leslie and Olive Coil Leeth. A graduate of Midway High School; She faithfully attended Grace Community Church in Washington Court House until her health made it impossible; a member of The Sedalia United Methodist Church until its closing, where she was very active in the U.M.W. serving as President several times. Also a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, past Worthy Matron of Nellie Counts Chapter #491 O.E.S., also Past Grand Representative of Puerto Rico.
Family and Faith is what Janice lived her life for. She was blessed the most when she could have all her family together at their dining room table to celebrate any occasion. Birthdays, Valentine Day, Easter which always included Sunrise Service breakfast, serving her delicious cinnamon rolls, also Christmas, 4th of July and any other time she could.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother, her first husband William H. Alspaugh, brother Gerald Leeth and also special sister-in-law Claris Lewis.
She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Steven R. Strayer of Sedalia, her children, Deborah D and Ron Kelso, William H and Ronda Alspaugh of Sedalia, Carl L and Regina Strayer of Leesburg;
4 grandchildren, Angela and Todd Hunter of Bloomingburg, Ronald Kyle and Cortney Alspaugh of London, Priscilla and Carly Strayer of Leesburg; 3 great-grandchildren, Hayden Todd, Holden Zane, and Brooklin Hope Hunter of Bloomingburg; a sister Frieda Noble of Sabina, and brother Elden (Pat) Leeth of Indiana. Several nieces and nephews and special cousin Jean Anderson of Washington C.H.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Rev. Jay Lucas and Rev. Gordon Ell officiating with the interment following in the Range Township Cemetery in Sedalia. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 p.m.
If they wish, in lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions may be made to Grace Community Church, 510 Glenn Avenue, Washington Court House, Ohio 43160 or Mt. Carmel West Hospice 793 West State Street, Columbus, Ohio 43222. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
Janice’s family would like to thank the entire staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Mt. Carmel Hospital for all the Love and Comfort that was shown to them during her stay. Also for the faithful prayers and visits from Grace Community Church of Washington C.H. and Church of Christ in Christian Union of Sedalia.
