John Hugh Kennedy was born July 12, 1931 in Alexandria, Ohio, to Ralph Emerson Kennedy and Freda Marie Douglas Kennedy and died peacefully at home Friday, November 21, 2014.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Rose Mary (Longcoy); children: John M. (Grace) Kennedy, Debbie M. (George Miller), Billie J. (Rodney) Yoder and Julie K. Kennedy of Magnolia; grandchildren: Tate (Heather) Kennedy, Shay (Emilie) Kennedy, Billy (Jenny) Saunders, Sonya and Jason Yoder, and Tori and Tyler Trbovich; great-grandchildren: Chaiston, Jaxon, and Colson Kennedy, Will and Emily Saunders; and brother, Raymond (Rosie) Kennedy.
He was predeceased in death by his parents and sisters: Shirley Heintzelman, Mary Jane Groff, and Charlene Endres.
John owned and operated Johnny's Repair Service until becoming an elevator mechanic for Westinghouse/Schindler of Columbus and retired in 1992. John successfully raised and showed Quarter Horses, was a lifetime member of AQHA and OQHA, and was a member of the OQHA board that established the All-American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus.
He was sought out by many for his talents to create tools and repair anything. He was a loving father and grandfather and deeply loved his family. He was greatly loved and the loss will be felt by many. John's family extends their sincere gratitude to the many loving and caring people of Mt. Sterling who offered their prayers and helped the family care for John in his last days.
A Funeral service will be held 12:00 Noon on Monday, November 24, 2014 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. The burial will follow in Pleasant Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to time of service beginning 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Mt. Sterling Public Library, 60 W. Columbus Street.
