John William Melvin, age 83, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 7, 2018 at 12:08 am in Mt. Carmel West Hospital. He was born December 25, 1934 in New Market, Highland County.  His parents were Henry W. and Blodwen Evans Melvin.  John went to school at Madison Mills and graduated in 1952 from Washington Court House High School.  After serving in the Army he came back to Fayette County and farmed for 67 years.  John served several years as a Madison Township Trustee.  He was an active member of the Madison Mills United Methodist Church, Board Member of the Fayette County Ag Hall of Fame, and former Director of the Fayette County Shepherds Club. John was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in- law Sarah and Bill Anschutz; father-in-law and mother-in-law Orville and Lillian Clark; grandsons Austin T. Melvin and Christopher Fultz. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Lavonne; daughter Lisa M. Haymon; sons Fred and Debra Melvin, John and Pamela Melvin, Don and Tabitha Melvin; grandchildren John Hayman and fiancee' Alyssa Hardin, Lane E. Hayman, Benson Melvin, Clark Melvin and fiancee' Kelsey Weisenburger, Henry Melvin, Brock Melvin, Nathan and Megan Melvin, Katelyn and Sean Waples, Morgan Melvin, Weston Melvin, Corbin Melvin; great-grandchildren Ray Melvin, Zane Melvin, Liliana Melvin, and Baby Waples to be born in January; sister Wilma Iles; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jim and Sharon Clark; nieces Sharon Iles, Debbie Kelly, Melissa Dawson, Tina Higgins; nephews Kerry Iles, Randy Anschutz and Alan Anschutz. A Funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Pastor Brian Dunham officiating with the interment following in Madison Mills Cemetery.  Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 3 - 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, family suggest memorial contributions can be made to the Madison Mills United Methodist Church Trustees.
