It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Larry V. Rice, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, age 78, born April 1, 1947, in Oil Springs, Kentucky to the late Mary Katherine Rice, passed away Friday, April 25, 2025, in the comfort of his home surrounded by loving family.
Larry’s life was a testament of hard work and dedication. Serving in the U.S. Army and being a Mt. Sterling Police Officer before becoming a Correctional Officer at the Pickaway Correctional Institution, from which he retired after 22 years of loyal service in 2009. Larry was a member of the Mt. Sterling Legion Post 417. Since 1995, Larry has enjoyed spending time at Deer Creek Camping Resort, sitting on the deck talking to people walking by and watching the cars coming in and out. He liked taking trips to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to visit the Island to watch the water and lights in the evening. Larry enjoyed going to dirt track races, watching his grandkids, and great-grandkids play sports, and race. You could catch Larry sitting in his recliner at home watching his favorite show…. Walker Texas Ranger. Nothing was more important in Larry’s life than the time he got to spend with his family and friends. Though Larry has left us, his legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the memories we cherish, and the love he shared so freely.
Along with his mother, Larry is preceded in death by his brother, Steve, many aunts, and uncles.
Larry is survived by his wife, Joan, whom he married on June 26, 1977; one son: Gary (Nancy) of Circleville, Ohio; two daughters: Lisa (Dave) of Salenville, Ohio, and Stephanie (Tim) of Williamsport, Ohio; eight grandchildren: Brooke (Will), Coty (Brooke), John III (Kendra), Jared (Austin), Sierra (Ridge), Alyssa, Savanna, and Jordan; eight great-grandchildren: Demian, Leah, Emmett, Harley, Waylon, Braelynn, Daxton, and Ellie; two sisters: Connie (Rex) Cress of London, Ohio, and Bonnie (Rick) Smith of Palm Beach, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
