Mary L. Smith

d. January 27, 2013

Mary L. Smith, age 70 of Grove City, Ohio died peacefully at home on January 27, 2013. Mary was born on Aug. 29th, 1943, one of eleven children born to the late Stella May (Smith) and John Joseph of Mt. Sterling, Ohio. She graduated from Mt. Sterling High School in 1960, one of the first in her family to do so.
A tireless worker, Mary, with husband Ralph Duane Smith (dec. 8/2009) whom she married in Aug. of 1975, owned and operated several successful businesses such as the Arrow Carry Out in Mt. Sterling and Frosties Campground in the Deer Creek State Park area in the 70’s and 80’s. After selling the businesses, Mary moved on to work at Showa Aluminum Corp where she was an assembly associate on the condenser line. A dependable and trustworthy employee, Mary retired from Showa in 2005. After retirement Mary continued working part time at the Deer Creek Campgrounds until 2011.
Mary enjoyed animals whether it was photographing white tail deer, keeping the birdfeeders full or simply caring for her many dogs and cats that she provided homes for over the years. Having grown up in the 50’s, she was a huge fan of 50’s music and was especially fond of Elvis and other artists of the era. She loved to shop and was a collector of dolls, antiques and artifacts.
As a mother and grandmother, Mary’s dedication to her kids and grandkids will never be forgotten. She loved and provided for them with her entire soul and rarely missed a school play, ball game, concert or meet. Her greatest joy was having everyone together for a meal or a party.
Mary will be greatly missed by sons John (Renee) Joseph of Grove City, Rowdy (Kelly) Joseph of Marysville; grandkids Leah, Sydney and Ethan as well as many extended family and friends.
A Memorial service will be held 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Rev. Leland Brehm of the Derby-Five Points United Methodist Church officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to time of service beginning 6:00 p.m. In keeping with Mary’s wishes cremation has been requested.
