Myrtis Ruth (Grayson) Dean

Myrtis “Ruth” Dean, 85, of Mount Sterling, Ohio passed away peacefully at home on October 3^rd, 2021 surrounded by loved ones.

Ruth was born October 8, 1935 to George and Myrtle (Self) Grayson in New Hope, Alabama. In 1955, she met Luther Dean, Jr., and they married July 3oth of that year after a pen pal romance. She then moved to Ohio with him. Together, they raised three children, enjoyed many adventures, and were married for 47 years until he passed in 2002. Ruth enjoyed family and friends, music and dancing, traveling, nature, art, and cooking amongst many other hobbies and accomplishments. Her ornery and adventurous yet loving spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was predeceased by her brothers Clayton, Billy, and Clyde; sisters Betty Jean, Georgia Mae, and Linda Gayle; and daughter-in-law Mary Dean.

Ruth is survived by her brother Jimmy and sister Joy; children Kathy (David) Smith, Danny Dean, and Michael (Mary) Dean; grandchildren Jason (Cecilia), Tasha, Danny Jr. (Carissa), Maranda, Holly, Jessica (Clinton), Ryan, Colby, and Dustin as well as Jamie, Laine, Kasey, and Julia; great-grandchildren Beth, Micah, Alexis, Jason Jr., Shyann, Isac, Aubrey, Desiree, and Oakland as well as Talon (Kailyn), Bryson, Hayden, Trinity, Grant, Garrett, Ava, and Emma; great-great grandchildren Milo, Kinsley, and Rylen; and numerous other family members including cousins, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. 

Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00p.m. THURSDAY  at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 331 West Main Street, Mt. Sterling, OH 43143 (740)-869-2777 where her Funeral Service will be held 11:00a.m. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2021 with Pastor Jamie Eckle, officiating.  Burial will follow at Pleasant Cemetery, Mt. Sterling, OH.

The family would like to thank Dr. John Bohlen and the Berger Hospice team for their support in Ruth’s final days.
