Okley A. Chapman, 89 of Mt. Sterling, who was a great husband, father, and grandfather, well dedicated to God and his church, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017 in Court House Manor. He was born November 21, 1927 in Milton, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Rudolph and Garnet (Miller) Chapman.
Okley was a devoted deacon and member of the Mt. Sterling Freewill Baptist Church; he served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II; retired from American General Life and Accident.
Preceded in death by daughter Brenda Bills, grandson Chuckie Carter, great-grandson Ashton Rowe, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Mettie Chapman; daughter Marilyn (Chuck) Carter of Mt. Sterling; grandchildren Toni (Keith) Ferguson, Marcia (David) Boeck, Pamela (Greg) Neer, Jessica (John) Harrison, Dave (Kim) Carter & family, Doug (Marta) Carter & family, Bert Carter & family, and Jennifer Carter & family; great-grandchildren Tiffany (Chris) Spaulding, Melissa, Aaron and Austin Rowe, Heather Liff, Hunter (Faith) Ferguson, Mason Ferguson, Jake and Daisy Harrison; great-great-grandchildren Treyce and Lani Spaulding, Lorraine and Remi Shepherd; many nieces and nephews, special niece Karen Delany; blessed with a multitude of church family and friends.
A Funeral service will be held 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Rev. Densil Wright and Pastor Jerry Galloway officiating. The interment will follow in Waterloo Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 am until 1:00 pm.
Those serving as pallbearers are Aaron and Austin Rowe, Hunter and Mason Ferguson, Ken Miller, and J.D. Bowman III. Honorary pallbearers are J.D. Bowman IV who will carry Okley's Bible along with Deacons of his church Rick Williams, Darrell Wright, and Bob Armentrout.
The family would like to thank the staff of Court House Manor and Heartland Hospice of Circleville for all their loving care in this transition.
