Ray Self, 84, passed from this earth on June 20, 2014. He was born December 11, 1929, the son of Harold and Dorothy (Morehart) Self.
His wife of 61 years, Evelyn Sells Self is left to mourn his loss along with his children; Bonnie (Larry) Spahr, Betty (Danny) Brown, Roger (Lisa) Self, Gary Self and Terry; also grandchildren , Karleigh Spahr, Kelsee (Andrew) Seaman, Ryan and Jeff Brown, Lauren (Derick) Hignite, John Jacobs, Jamie (Dempsey) Haning, Abby Self, Julie and Joelle Self, five great-grandchildren and one due in November.
He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Martha Sells Clark, two nephews, cousins, many friends and his beloved dog, Cricket who he loved to give rides on his gator.
Ray was a life time farmer who loved caring for the soil and what he grew from it. After he retired, he became an avid gardener, giving away a lot of his produce to family and friends. He took pride in keeping his yard freshly mowed and everything on his farm neat and trimmed. He enjoyed watching sports on TV and above all, loved his family. Ray was born, raised and died on Junk Road.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 24th from 4 – 7 p.m. at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Those who wish to attend a Graveside service on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in Pleasant Cemetery. Rev. Mike Berne officiating.
