Rev. Jack Downey, age 86 of Columbus, Ohio went home to be with Jesus Wed., May 28th, 2014 very peacefully with his wife of over 31 years and children by his side singing his favorite hymns. As his soul took flight to be with his Savior and loved ones that have gone before. WOW what a reunion that must be!
Jack was a retired Pentecostal minister for over 50 years, which was his true passion. He pastored a church in Marion, Ohio for several years later a church in Mt. Sterling establishing where he retired after 17 years.
Oh how he loved Jesus, singing and playing his banjo as he worshipped his Savior. We will not soon forget the sweet sounds of Ohio praise.
Jack was born Jan. 3, 1928 in Lawrence County, KY.; son of the late Gilbert and Gertrude (Perry) Downey. Also preceded in death by brother Walter Downey and sister Lucille Wright.
He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis and her mother, “Mommy” Stevens; sisters Mary Salyers and Carolyn Debord; children Ken Downey, Faith Downey Maxwell, Randal Downey, Jack Downey, Joan Downey Denman, Jonathan Downey; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; step-daughters Shellia Chaffin and Karen Musgrave; 4 step-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, May 31st, 2014 at the APOSTOLIC GOSPEL CHURCH 15770 US Highway 62, Mt. Sterling, Ohio 43143. Rev. Darrell Kelly officiating with the burial following in Pleasant Cemetery. The Fayette County Honor Guard will perform a military service at the grave site for the World War II Navy veteran. Family will receive friends at the church on Friday, May 30th from 7 – 9 p.m.
