Velma Elizabeth (Burgett) Phillips, age 94 of Mt. Sterling, Ohio entered the gates of Heaven March 29, 2013 at Scioto Community in Obetz, OH. She was born May 21, 1918, near Commercial Point, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Phillips after 64 wonderful years of marriage. Also by parents Thomas and Ella (Murray) Burgett, by sisters Nora Cantor, Mazie Ridgway, Wanda Holby, and by brothers Roy, Carl, and Vernis Burgett.
She is survived by sons Jerry (Judy) of Canal Winchester and Mickey (Joyce) of Mt. Sterling; grandchildren Jeff (Heather), Joby (Amber), and James (Kristen) Phillips, and Julie (Tim) Wickline, plus four great-grandchildren Bryce and Blake Wickline, Isaiah David Phillips, and Hannah Jane Phillips; also step-grandchildren Clay (Patti), Bo, Daniel, and Brett Burgett, plus ten step great-grandchildren.
Survived also by several nieces and nephews.
Velma was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Sterling for over 70 years and a member of Pythian Sisters #536 for over 50 years. She served on the Mt. Sterling Election Board for over 40 years. She spent her last eleven years at Mt. Sterling Place in Mt. Sterling and at Scioto Community in Obetz.
A Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. Rev. Dortha Ross officiating with the interment following in Pleasant Cemetery.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 – 7 p.m.
