William Lawrence Ooten, age 77, formerly of Madison Mills died Saturday, December 3, 2011 in St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Toledo. He was born April 26, 1934 in Williamson, West Virginia.
He was the son of the late Carlos and Kate (Hedgecock) Ooten.
Bill was a member of the Armored Division of the National Guard. He was an avid gun dealer and enjoyed going to the Lucasville Swap Meets with friends and family. He loved to go hunting and trapping with his sons and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Nell (Maynard) Ooten, son Alex Ooten, sisters Jaunita Maw and Dorothy Ooten.
He is survived by sons William (Martha) Ooten of Grove City, Ohio, Carlos (Vicki) Ooten of Miami, Florida, David (Jenny) Riley of Washington Court House; daughters Deborah Ooten of Cincinnati, Ohio and Perri Ooten of Tiffin, Ohio; sisters Pauline (Charles) Sweeny of Largo, Florida, Raynell (Gary) Butcher of South Solon, Ohio; brothers Carlos (Nell) Ooten of Springfield, Ohio and Larry (Joyce) Church of South Solon, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 from 4 – 7 pm at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, Mt. Sterling. A Funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011 at the MT. STERLING FREEWILL BAPTIST CHURCH. Rev. Oliver Stevens officiating with the interment following in Madison Mills Cemetery.
